Allocation in semi-finals of the Icelandic selection Söngvakeppnin 2020


RÚV, the Icelandic broadcaster, has unveiled today the allocation in semi-finals of the Icelandic national selection, Söngvakeppnin 2020, that will select its representative in Rotterdam.

Six songs have an English and Icelandic version and the other four only in Icelandic.

Matti Mat, the Icelandic representative in 2011, is on the list. Other known names are Dady Freyr (runner-up in the Icelandic final of 2017), Elisabeth (Söngvakeppnin 2016), as well as the winner of the second edition of the Icelandic version of Idol, Hildur Vala

The semi-finals of this national mechanism will take place on February 8th and 15th in the Háskólabíó with five participants. The public and the jury will choose in each semifinal two to compete in the final of February 29th at Laugardagshöll. The organization could choose a fifth finalist among all the unclassified semifinalists.

The final will have two rounds of voting. In the first, the public and the jury will choose two finalists who will advance to the second round, where only the public will decide between the two who becomes Icelandic representative in Rotterdam.

Although the songs in semi-finals can only be performed in Icelandic, in the final the singers are free to sing in English.

In the last edition of this format, the Hatari group was chosen, getting the ticket for Tel Aviv, achieving with "Hatrið mun sigra" that the country not only qualified for the final, after five years, but also reach on it the place 10th.
