However, and through the Spotify digital platform, which has already released them, we already know which are the songs and artists that will compete for the ticket to Rotterdam. Six songs have an English and Icelandic version and the other four only in Icelandic.

Finalists of Söngvakeppnin 2020:
Matti Mat, the Icelandic representative in 2011, is on the list. Other known names are Dady Freyr (runner-up in the Icelandic final of 2017), Elisabeth (Söngvakeppnin 2016), as well as the winner of the second edition of the Icelandic version of Idol, Hildur Vala

The semi-finals of this national mechanism will take place on February 8th and 15th in the Háskólabíó with five participants. The public and the jury will choose in each semifinal two to compete in the final of February 29th at Laugardagshöll. The organization could choose a fifth finalist among all the unclassified semifinalists.

The final will have two rounds of voting. In the first, the public and the jury will choose two finalists who will advance to the second round, where only the public will decide between the two who becomes Icelandic representative in Rotterdam.

Although the songs in semi-finals can only be performed in Icelandic, in the final the singers are free to sing in English.

Some Icelandic media claim that the Netflix streaming platform could sponsor the Icelandic team with 72,000 euros. Something that could be related to the "Eurovision" movie, produced, written and performed by Will Ferrel with Rachel McAdams, Pierce Brosnan, Demi Lobato or Dan Stevens. The film, which will be released this year, talks about two Icelandic singers who want to represent their country in Eurovision and has been filmed at the 2018 and 2019 festivals.

In the last edition of this format, the Hatari group was chosen, getting the ticket for Tel Aviv, achieving with "Hatrið mun sigra" that the country not only qualified for the final, after five years, but also reach on it the place 10th.
